How IronLinx Transportation Filled Every Truck with Drivers Using Array HQ

IronLinx needed seven drivers to fill its fleet. Every seat is filled today, and has stayed filled. John McConnell spent thirty years on the road before IronLinx asked him to stop driving and go find more drivers like himself.

IronLinx Transportation started in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, as the truckload division of IronLinx Distribution. Founded by F. Scott Danby in 2005, IronLinx Distribution handled freight and order fulfillment for e-commerce companies, starting in a small four-bay garage before growing into a full-scale warehouse in 2007.

Today IronLinx Transportation employs roughly 70 drivers and staff and runs 24/7 from two terminals and one heavy maintenance facility. The fleet includes 60 tractors and more than 400 dry van trailers, covering the entire east coast with a focus on same and next day service across the mid-Atlantic and northeast.

After 30 years on the road, John McConnell joined IronLinx as a driver in 2015. Once he hit his fifth year, the company asked him to become a recruiter. "When I started, it was really up and down when trying to find drivers," John said. "We tried using platforms like Glassdoor and Indeed, but the quality just wasn't there. It was a complete waste of time."

His day starts around 5:30 a.m., making sure dispatch goes out, helping drivers, and checking for new applications.

Texting instead of chasing

Array HQ notifies recruiters the moment a candidate applies, so John can text them directly instead of working through email and voicemail.

"The texting feature has been huge for me," he said. "In the past, I've used different platforms where I don't get notified or have to keep going back into the system to message candidates. With Array HQ's texting feature, I can reply to candidates instantly without sitting at my desk all day chasing them down."

For a recruiter whose morning starts with dispatch and whose day happens across a terminal rather than at a screen, that's the difference between catching a candidate and losing one. Driver candidates don't wait.

Seven hires, and the trucks stayed full

A campaign only works if someone gives it the time it deserves. John credits a regular cadence with his Account Manager for much of what followed. "My Account Manager is great. She does a lot for me. Whenever I had any questions or had to make a change to my campaign, she would make the fixes right away. I ended up getting more applications from her changes."

"You're going into this blind, so your Account Manager is your support system," he said. "They take the burden off you so you can focus on doing your job."

When John started his campaign he needed seven hires to fill his trucks. Today all of them are filled. "Ever since the pandemic, it's been hard to find drivers. Since making my hires with Array HQ, I have been able to fill my trucks and keep them filled. It's been great for us."

He has already pointed friends at the platform. "If Array HQ didn't fill my trucks with drivers already, I would still be using this service. However, when I need to make more hires, I will 100% be using my Account Manager and the Array HQ team to fill those trucks."

"IronLinx will 100% be back," John said. Request a demo to see what recruitment advertising or outsourced recruiting can do for your driver seats.
